Job Summary:
As the Team Lead of Business Development at Sudo Africa and Safe Haven MFB, you will be responsible for developing and executing a strategic roadmap to grow the company’s customer base, increase revenue, build strategic partnerships, and enhance market presence. You will lead a dynamic team to identify new business opportunities, structure strategic deals, and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including SMEs, financial institutions, corporates, and partners.
The ideal candidate is a results-oriented, strategic thinker with deep industry knowledge of the fintech landscape, strong leadership skills, and a proven record in sales, partnerships, and market expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Define and lead the overall business development strategy in alignment with the company’s mission, product roadmap, and revenue goals.
- Identify market trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activities to shape strategy and position the company competitively in the fintech space.
- Develop, implement, and optimize sales funnels, partnership pipelines, and go-to-market strategies across products and services.
Sales & Revenue Growth
- Own and drive revenue targets, customer acquisition metrics, and market share growth across all fintech product lines (e.g., digital payments, APIs, lending, embedded finance).
- Oversee the performance of the business development team to ensure achievement of KPIs including deal closure rate, monthly recurring revenue, and conversion rates.
- Develop pricing strategies and commercial models for B2B, B2C, or B2B2C customer segments.
Partnership & Ecosystem Development
- Build, manage, and deepen strategic relationships with banks, telecoms, startups, aggregators, payment processors, and enterprise clients.
- Lead negotiations for high-value commercial partnerships and joint ventures.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums to build credibility and open new business channels.
Team Management & Development
- Hire, coach, and manage a high-performing business development team including sales executives, partnership managers, and key account managers.
- Set performance targets, conduct regular reviews, and build a strong performance-driven culture.
- Provide mentoring and training opportunities to upskill the team in fintech sales and consultative solution selling.
Customer Relationship Management
- Oversee the lifecycle of key accounts from onboarding, through activation, to growth and retention.
- Implement feedback loops between clients and product/engineering teams to ensure continuous improvement of solutions.
- Monitor customer satisfaction, churn, and NPS scores and drive initiatives to improve retention.
Data-Driven Decision Making & Reporting
- Develop dashboards and reports for tracking business development activities, performance, and ROI.
- Analyze key metrics to refine business strategies and improve sales effectiveness.
- Present insights and progress to the executive leadership team and board.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- New customer acquisition and retention rate
- Monthly/Annual recurring revenue (MRR/ARR) growth
- Value and number of strategic partnerships secured
- Sales pipeline value and conversion rate
- Churn rate and customer lifetime value (CLTV)
- Market share penetration in targeted segments
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field (MBA is a plus).
- 6+ years of business development experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within fintech or financial services.
- Deep knowledge of fintech products such as digital banking, lending, APIs, payment gateways, wallets, or embedded finance.
- Proven experience in developing go-to-market strategies, managing complex deal cycles, and closing high-value B2B or enterprise deals.
- A strong network within the fintech, banking, or tech ecosystem is an added advantage.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce), data analytics tools, and business reporting.
