The Technical Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating risks, reviewing insurance proposals, obtaining competitive terms from insurers, and supporting the design and placement of insurance solutions for individuals and corporate clients. The role requires sound technical judgment, strong market knowledge, and the ability to balance risk, coverage, and commercial objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Review and assess insurance applications, proposals, and supporting documentation.

  • Evaluate risks and determine appropriate coverage, pricing, terms, and conditions.

  • Analyze underwriting information to ensure alignment with insurer guidelines and risk appetite.

  • Identify and escalate complex or high-risk cases where necessary.

Insurance Placement & Market Engagement

  • Obtain quotations and negotiate competitive terms with insurance companies.

  • Compare coverage options and recommend the most suitable solutions for clients.

  • Coordinate the placement and renewal of insurance policies across multiple product lines.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with insurers and underwriting partners.

Technical Advisory

  • Provide technical guidance and product support to sales, partnership, and operations teams.

  • Review policy wordings, endorsements, and coverage structures.

  • Assist in developing and enhancing insurance products and solutions.

  • Support client presentations and discussions requiring technical insurance expertise.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all placements comply with NAICOM regulations, NCRIB guidelines, CIIN professional standards, and internal company policies.

  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and documentation.

  • Support audits, regulatory reporting, and compliance reviews as required.

  • Monitor adherence to underwriting guidelines and service standards.

Portfolio Management & Reporting

  • Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, and risk exposures.

  • Analyze underwriting data and prepare reports for management.

  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and automation efforts.
