We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer (EMEA time zones) to join a small, high-calibre team and help build the foundations of HoneyCoin’s platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Build scalable backend infrastructure
    Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power HoneyCoin’s core financial products.

  • Own backend architecture and data models
    Design schemas and manage transactions, indexing, and performance across relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Develop and maintain APIs
    Build performant REST APIs with caching such as Redis, background workers, third-party integrations, transactional email, analytics, and monitoring.

  • Background processing and scheduling
    Design and maintain reliable background jobs and schedulers for asynchronous and time-based workflows.

  • Cloud and platform ownership
    Work primarily on GCP using services such as Firebase and Firestore. Help define long-term cloud infrastructure and deployment strategy as we scale.

  • System reliability and performance
    Ensure high availability, observability, and resilience across services.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally
    Work closely with frontend engineers, designers, and product to deliver end-to-end features.

  • Solve complex technical problems
    Tackle distributed systems, financial workflows, integrations, and real-time data synchronization.


What We’re Looking For

  • Senior individual contributor with experience building production-grade backend systems.

  • 4+ years of backend experience, ideally with Node.js and TypeScript.

  • Strong understanding of API design, databases, transactions, and performance tuning.

  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP.

  • Familiarity with background jobs, schedulers, and asynchronous systems.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment with ownership and autonomy.

  • Strong communication skills and sound engineering judgment.

  • Pragmatic, detail-oriented, and user-focused.

Nice to have

  • Experience in fintech, payments, or financial systems.

  • Familiarity with Docker and modern CI/CD workflows.

  • Exposure to blockchain or distributed systems.
